Greetings from 2nd grade!! I prayed you all enjoyed spring break and the celebration of our risen Lord! We had a busy week preparing for chapel, but next week we should be back to our regular routine. I just wanted to thank the class for their hard work on our chapel service. They did a great job!! Here’s what is coming up:

Our unit 5 social studies test will be Tuesday, April 13th. The study guide was sent home on Tuesday, April 6th.

Night at The Museum will take place on Friday, April 23rd. It goes from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This is a great night to see some of your child’s artwork and have some family fun. Many parts of the movie Night at the Museum will be portrayed live with parents, students, and teachers from Zion.

The spring musical will be on Wednesday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m. This is a part of your child’s music grade. If your child cannot attend Mrs. Bell will need a note. We look forward to seeing you there!

Here’s what we have been up to this week:

Religion: This week we talked about “The Great Commission” and Ascension Day. The Great Commission is the job Jesus gave His disciples and us to do. No one is too young, too old, too sick, too tired, too poor, too busy, too anything to do this job. Jesus told his disciples to go and spread the good news of Christ. We can tell others about Jesus’ love for them, His birth, death, and resurrection. Jesus uses us as His messengers too. We have a job to do!!! We also talked about Jesus’ ascension. After Easter, Jesus stayed on the earth for 40 days. He used this time to help His disciples and followers understand His death and resurrection. When the time came Jesus took the disciples to a hill and they watched as He ascended back up to His home in heaven. But, Jesus promised to give us the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, we would not be able to do our job of sharing the Good news of Jesus. The Holy Spirit comes to us through God’s word and the sacraments. With the Holy Spirit in our hearts, we live as people of God, sharing His message and showing His loving-kindness. Jesus will return someday return to take us to heaven.

Math: In math this week we practiced writing number sentences. In addition, we learned to identify intersecting and perpendicular lines. Finally, we worked on subtracting 3 digit numbers and money amounts. We are also continuing to work on our multiplication by 2’s.

Reading: In reading this week we talked about the suffixes –ful, -ly, -y, and –ness. We also practiced the following high frequency words: draw, also, between, eight, and seven. Even though Book-It has ended, please continue to encourage your child to read each day. I suggest that over the summer you set some goals for them as well.

Science/SS: In science this week we talked about how water can change. We reviewed the following vocabulary words: freeze, melt, water vapor, boiling, condensation, and evaporation. In social studies we reviewed for our Unit 5 test. Our test is on Tuesday, April 13th. The study guide was sent home this past Tuesday.

Language Arts: Before spring break we started a project in computer. The kids were each assigned a type of fish or sea creature. They took notes on this fish and this week we took their notes and formed five to seven sentences. They will type these sentences and make a slide show about their assigned fish. We also practiced writing book titles.

Phonics/Spelling: In phonics this week we worked with the vowel pair “ea.” We discussed how it can make more than one sound. In addition, we talked about the sound of “au” and “aw.” In spelling, we studied words with the vowel+r sound in car.

God’s blessings on your weekend!! Don’t forget about the job each of us was given to do—share the good news of Christ!!

In Our Risen Savior,
Miss Rempfer
